Once the struggles of the MCAT were finally behind me, the stresses of applying to medical schools were now at the forefront. Although I had rough idea of what the application was like, the entire process was still quite daunting and I didn’t know where to begin. In trying to remedy my struggles, I came across raving reviews about MedSchool Insiders as a valuable resource. I decided to give it a chance and purchased one of the advising packages. After a quick introductory survey about myself, I was eventually matched with Rebecca as my advisor. I cannot fully express in words how grateful I was for Rebecca’s help!. She held my hand and guided me through every step of the application process. She was able to help me eloquently weave my scattered drafted essay into a glowing story that was personal to me and built up my confidence during mock interview sessions with her. She was always there when I needed her assistance and genuinely believed in me and as far as even going beyond what was expected of her to ensure my success. With her help, I was able to interview at my top choice schools and was finally accepted into one of them. I could not be more satisfied with my Med School Insiders experience. Monica Li helped me to edit my personal statement and, look, I don’t want to get your expectations up so high that you miss out on the absolute joy of having them outrageously exceeded like I did, but she was seriously incredible! I had been “working on” my statement for months and was so completely stuck. I didn’t really think that an editing service could help me very much because I figured, “They can’t tell me what my meaningful experiences are,” and “They can’t write it for me,” so I just expected some vague guidance about how to improve. I was completely mistaken. During my 30-minute phone brainstorming session with Monica, she asked me about my experiences (all of which I thought we kind of duds as far as PS topics) and she pointed out the ways that I could actually write about them as unique experiences and tie them into a theme. After she had pointed me in the right direction and given me confidence that my experiences were actually worth writing about, it was infinitely easier for me to really get started writing. My first draft was very long and just kind of a collection of everything I could think of without an apparent theme. Monica identified a theme in what I had written and cut out all the things that didn’t support that theme. She also gave me some ways to talk about what the experiences meant to me and really filled in the reflection aspect of the essay. On top of providing seriously top-notch edits, her response time was unbelievable - always less than 24 hours! She’s a first-year resident physician, so this is extra impressive. I think this might have been the best $650 I’ve ever sent.

I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Monica Li as the editor for my letter of intent. She was prompt and diligent in correcting and suggesting various items. She wasn't afraid of seriously reorienting the focus of letter either while still being very encouraging and helpful. Overall, I feel much more confident about submitting it. As a note, I only used half her suggestions for rewording phrases, and I would also recommend not to assume that someone is submitting their first draft for editing. I think I submitted my fourth or fifth draft to Med School Insiders. Thank you for all the help!
